Mobile Project

Currently the mobile phone usage in Tanzania stands at around 70% an ideal environment to launch a digital training delivered via mobile phones. OMPACO launched its first mobile phone training in Arusha, July of 2018. Training programs were administered to teachers in both Swahili and English and the content was available on both smart phones and on more traditional phones. The content included training about autism in seven modules: etiology, assessment and diagnosis, communication, teaching and strategies, individualized education plan (IEP), and behavior and sensory interventions. The content also included a pre and post test. All the teachers who completed the training received a certificate of completion and could choose to enter into a lottery to win a $50 Amazon Fire table preloaded with relevant education material. Twenty tablet winners were awarded their prize at a closing ceremony in Arusha, Tanzania in July 2019. Overall 84 teachers accessed the training with a completion rate of 41 percent, high for online trainings.

In July 2019 OMPACO launched its second mobile phone training program in Mwanza. Results of the second training are pending, but to date 170 users have accessed.
